Wow! It has been way too long since I've blogged. I am excited that 2009 is here and that we should be getting our first big snow of the year tonight and tomorrow. My children can't wait.

My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary on January 8th! Jason's sister and husband kindly cared for the children while we headed to Don Pablos in Newport to use one of our gift cards from Christmas. It was delicious!

I am looking forward to the weddings and portraits I have scheduled for 2009! I was checking out Martha Stewart Weddings online and saw the most beautiful white bouquets. I just love flowers! Here is my favorite. Notice the something blue in the bouquet. Check out this bouquet and others in the flowers section.

After the lovely ceremony at Trinity Episcopal Church, the couple made their way to The Grand by carriage. The celebration began with a cocktail hour featuring a wine tasting. Everyone enjoys receiving recent pictures of family and friends for the holidays. If you have wedding pictures or portrait pictures we did this year and you'd like to order some for Christmas, no problem. If you want to have a photo session done, October and November are great months for that. Just be sure to place your order before Dec. 1st to ensure delivery in time for the holidays.

I've included my favorites of Christine and JP. We shot some pics of them this past summer, but had a second shoot last week for a fall look and feel.

Baby Portraits

So precious!! I couldn't have asked for a more cooperative baby. Her mother, Molly, changed her outfit three times and she never fused.

Children grow up so fast. This first year of a baby's life needs to be recorded. Payton will never be this old again and now her family has these lovely portraits to help them remember just how she looked.

The portraits documenting Molly holding her baby are priceless. When she looks at these portraits years from now, it will remind her of how she felt holding her newborn. Life is so fast paced and always changing. We must take the time to get portraits of those we love so we can always remember the moment. So if anyone is thinking of family portraits or baby portraits for Christmas or just because, shoot me an email or a phone call and let's get it set up.

Eden Park Engagement Shoot

J.P. and Christine are fantastic. Jason and I had a blast shooting their engagement photos and video. J.P. and Christine plan to show the engagement video at their reception next July. The video will include songs of their choosing, live footage of the two of them, and pictures of them from childhood to adulthood. These videos are always a hit and so much fun to put together. They chose J.P.'s grandparents farm for the shoot. It was so beautiful..even in the rain.

Remember Chris and Michelle from their engagement session back in April? I was privileged to shoot their fabulous wedding on June 14th. Chris and Michelle decided to see eachother before the wedding so there would be a minimal delay in their arrival at the reception. This allowed them more time with their guests, eating and dancing. I always think this works best. Seeing eachother for the first time on the wedding day is always special no matter where it happens. In this case, Chris choose Eden Park for the meeting place and the shoot. What a great idea!

Kurt, Crystal & family

What gorgeous weather we had for our family shoot on Saturday! I met Kurt, Crystal, Grant and Colin at Central Park in Boone County. This family is awesome! They were well prepared with snacks for the kids to keep them happy during the one hour shoot. We took pictures of Grant as he played in the Children's garden, then we did some family shots. We then gave the family a rest and took pictures of baby Colin, who was all smiles. Afterwards, we did some more family shots, pictures of the parents and shots of the boys together.

A one hour portrait shoot goes by very quickly. The length of time is great for children, because sometimes they need to take a break, have a snack or just be "out of the picture" for a minute. With the beautiful Spring and Summer weather now here, don't forget to schedule your outdoor family portraits. Here are some of my favorites...

Vonage phone service?

I usually enjoy giving recommendations to services and vendors who do a good job and give a great value no matter what the cost in dollars. That is why it is difficult for me to review Vonage. Though I would much rather give a positive review, I feel some responsibility to warn others about my five-week-long experience with the self proclaimed, "better way to phone for less".

I suppose Vonage could be thought of as a better way to phone, that is if you were previously accustomed to using tin cans and string or Native American smoke signals as benchmarks. However, my experience with Vonage was full of empty promises and contracted fees that taught me a valuable lesson which I am eager to pass along to any that are wise enough to listen. Vonage makes impressive promises, but what good is $25/month long-distance calling, or local calling for that matter, if you can't hear what is being said from the other end of the line? Sometimes the person on the other end of the line could hear me, sometimes I could hear them, it was always an adventure to find out just how my calls would go, but it was rarely the fun kind of adventure. I made the suggested adjstment to my service, based on my Internet provider's bandwidth, but to no avail.

This was definitely NOT the way for me to run a business! To any of you who may have been the co-recipient of one of our "adventure calls" over the past month, I sincerely apologize. I corrected the problem today by canceling Vonage, only after a costly and valuable lesson to the tune of about $200 in: sign up fees, hidden fees, taxes, disconnect fees and a non-refundable deposit. All for a month's worth of poor quality calls, and my troubles with 6, (yes SIX!) service calls, complete with voice menus and hold-time hassles and very courteously repeated promises to port over my old number, which never did happen. To top it all off, they gave me the disrespect of questioning my story (and credibility) with insinuations and of course, the obligatory, sales pitches when I called to cancel.

Some summary points:

You will continue to be able to reach me on my "adventure-free line", 859.689.1995.

If any of you are thinking, "I might have told you so." You aren't the first.

If you, your family or friends are considering Vonage, as a low cost carrier, you may want to consider my experience and instead start putting aside old tin cans and some very, very, long pieces of string.

Jordan and Stephanie were married in the historic Mutter Gottes Kirche (Mother of God Church) in Covington, KY. The church was breathtaking and the couple, beautiful in every way. The wedding ceremony had a special touch as the Deacon read letters aloud that the bride and groom had written to each other.

Before the ceremony, the bride and bridesmaids detoured to the Wiedemann Mansion in Newport for pictures. The gorgeous victorian home with it's woodwork and stained glass windows were the perfect back drop. The reception took place at the Benchmark in Covington. Thanks to my second shooter Tracy DeBellevue for capturing some terrific images.

I've included pictures from Sami's bridal portrait shoot last fall. She was such a gorgeous bride! The perfect time to do a bridal portrait shoot is a couple weeks before the wedding when the bride meets with her salon specialists to experiment with hair and makeup. After the salon appointment, we meet at a cool location like this one for a fun photo shoot. It is so much fun and frees up some time on the wedding day.

Location#2: Looking for an elegant location for your wedding and reception? Here it is! The French House is an amazing place! As I drove up the driveway, I could see the French House in the distance and I fell in love with it. It is located in French Park in Amberley Village/Pleasant Ridge. This historic two story brick house was previously an estate. The house is surrounded by outdoor terraces, gardens and meadows. As I walked around the grounds, I could just imagine the possibilities for where to have the ceremony, the seating of the guests, etc. It was so tranquil and the breeze was calming. I felt like I was out in the country, but yet so close to Cincinnati. One of my recent adventures has been album art! I had the opportunity to work with Noah Hunt and Jason Dennie. Their music is a sincere, soulful blend of Noah's bluesy voice and Jason's beautifully intricate guitar. These two are longtime friends and collaborators and I think this really came through in their pictures. Each is a successful, talented musician in his own right; Jason is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan while Noah is a Cincinnati native who made it big as the lead singer for the Kenny Wayne Shepard Band. Last Wedding of 2007

K.C. and Rachel were married Dec. 29th at the Laurel Court Mansion in Cincinnati. What a stunning location and with so much history! What I loved most about this wedding was the details! They thought of everything! K.C. and Rachel are both Latin teachers so there were Roman themes everywhere. Some of these included the red shoes worn by the bride, the latin phrase in ornaments at each place setting and their programs which included Roman columns. The highlight of the evening was a song written and sung for the bride and groom "Language of Love" by Jake Speed and the Freddies. The wedding was beautiful and was distinctively K.C. and Rachel!
